What are the differences between Aporagender versus Maverique?

When it comes to the difference between aporagender and maverique is the experience of gender.

When it comes to aporagender, the gender identity is separate from any existing gender identities in the spectrum whereas when it comes to Maverique, the identity is that gender identity is completely separate and independent from the concept of gender as a whole.

The individual who identifies as aporagender might not identify as any of the existing genders but express themselves in line with other gender constructs whereas the gender expression of maverique is independent of any gender construct.

Another distinction is that aporagender is an umbrella term while maverique is considered a single gender that falls under the umbrella of aporagender.

What is Maverique?

Maverique is a gender identity which refers to an individual who has complete autonomy and conviction of their sense of self.

Individual who identity as this believe that their identity is independent of any binary gender identity, presentation, or expression  however it does not mean that they identity as being genderless or being apathic towards the gender idenitty.

People who identify as Maverique do experience a feeling of gender however, they do not feel like their gender is either male, female, nor a mix of them, nor an absence of gender.

They believe that their identity goes beyond the gender binary spectrum as well as any identities within or outside of this spectrum.

The Maverique does not identify with anything that has to do with the gender binary or any other deity that is derived with respect to the gender binary and the way they express themselves is regardless and not connected to any of the gender identities and it is entirely up to the individual.

This indigeneity falls under the non binary term and is completely independent from male, female, neutral, or anything derived from any of them.

However, it has to ben mentioned that they can experience being multigender with their other genders being related to maleness, femaleness, or neutrality and can identify under the nonbinary or transgender umbrella terms. (NonBinary wiki)

The term itself was coined in 2014 by user Queerlikeacat or Vesper H to describe their own gender, to represent the unorthodox- that they do not fit any norms both outside and within the spectrum.

The term is almost rebellious and in their non-political sense they represent a conscious choice to rebel or move away from any known gender concept.

When it comes to individual identities as such, maverique can be solely and independently as such or can be part of a bi-gender identity where one of the identities is a maverique and so forth.

What is aporagender?

Aporagender  is a gender identity that describes a gender experience that is separate, different, and distinct from the experience of any other existing gender identities or constructs.

This gender idenity does fall under the non-binary umbrella however it is specific and different from non-binary genders that already exists.

As an umbrella term, aporagender includes some kinds of nonbinary and genderqueer people however it does not include people who identify as agender, genders between male and female, nore binary trans indidvdiuals.

Aporagender as an identity is not the same as androgyne as androgyne refers to a mix of or in between male and female whereas aporagender refers to an identity that is not either of these experiences.

Aporagender is also different form being genderless or agender because aporagender involves having some gender experince even if it is not catagorised within the spectrum.

This gender identitiy also is in regards with the experience that there is a gender that is experienced and it is not genderless as seen in agender identiites. However this gender is similarly different and not associated with any existing genders.

The term aporagender was coined in 2014 as a replacement for the word aliagender due to the controversy surrounding aliagender identity. The original moderator of the Aporagender blog on tumblr coined the word aporagender in 2014.(Non-Binary Wiki)

The individual who coined this term pushed forward the idea that the term was not coined to be racist or appropriate and there was no basis on which the accusations were based and it was then that another individual coined the term “aporgender” as a replacement more or less.

When it comes to symbolic representation of this gender identity, in 2018 an alternate flag was proposed because not many individuals were happy with the original flag because it represented too much of the already existing identities.

The new flag introduced the colour teal which validates the identity as something that is very separate from the existing identities, and existing flags but also similar in some ways to existing identities.

The flag also had a diagonal stripe across the flag to indicate the idea that this gender identity is on a completely different plane from the binaries or dienties that already exist. (Non-Binary Wiki)

What is gender identity?

Gender identity refers to the terms that distinguish a person’s gender. It is what the individual who experiences their unique gender uses to identify their gender.

Gender, as we all know is no longer considered the same as sex. It is now understood that it is inherently different and these two distinct concepts can be different in an individual.

This means that they need not align. A person can have the male anatomy while identifying as someone who has no gender that they identity with- and in this case, they will most probably identity as agender,

While the genetic factors or biological factors define a person’s sex, gender is a social construct whcih means that is is not written in stone and that a person can have a gender identity only they can determine.

Gender identity is a personal experience, and it cannot be determined by someone or something else outside of the person.

Another important thing that we must understand is that gender is not limited to binary genders, this means that it is not only restricted to being a man or a woman.

Gender is more than just binary categories and an individual can have more than one gender or identify with no gender at all.

According to The Trevor Project gender consists of the following concepts:

  • The gender identity, which is what the person experiences and identities as in terms of their gender.
  • Gender expression which consists of how an individual expresses themselves to themselves and to other people. A person might express themslwves as either in a masculine way or in a non-binary way.

This will include aspects such as mannerisms, clothing styles, names, and pronoun choices, and basic conduct with respect to their gender.

What are the different types of gender identity?

Here is a brief list of some of the more commonly known gender identities:

  • Agender where the individual does not identify as either female or male and also, possibly, not identify with any gender at all.
  • Androgyne is a term where individuals identify as both female and male.
  • Bigender where indidvdiuals identify as bigender, you identify with two genders.
  • Cisgender where the indidviausl identies with the sex they are born with, that means their gender identity and sex allign.
  • Gender expansive where the individual does not fit their cultural standardised definitions of gender and their gender broadens the cultural expectations or limitations placed  by society on their gender.
  • Gender fluid is a term where the individual can express themselves either outside, within, or between their societal gender expectations.
  • Gender outlaw where individuals who identify as gender outlaw, refuse to let society define your gender.
  • Genderqueer where their gender identity is not aligned with the societal expectations (or “norms”) that are placed on your assigned sex.
  • Non-binary where the indidvaiusl does not identity with either male or female but they identify their gender as something other than these two binary genders.
  • Omnigender where individuals identify and experience all genders.
  • Polygender/pangender where individuals identify as having parts of or experience more than one gender.
  • Transgender/trans where indidvdiuals are born with a sex that is not what they identify with. Another term that is used for this cohort of indidvdiuals is non-binary or gender nonconforming.
  • Novigender is a gender identity that is used by individuals who do not feel like their  gender can be described using existing categories due to its complexity.
  • Librafluid refers to a gender identity where the individual is mostly agender but also has a strong connection to other genders.
  • Aliagender is a gender identity that describes a gender experience that is separate, different, and distinct from the experience of any other existing gender identities or constructs.
  • Aporagender  is a gender identity that describes a gender experience that is separate, different, and distinct from the experience of any other existing gender identities or constructs.

This list is not exhaustive and there are plenty more gender identities that are being identified and realised as individuals learn more about themselves and express their gender realities on their own terms. Gender identity is something that can be constantly evolving. None of the following terms are all-inclusive or finite.
