What are Body Image worksheets?

What is body image?

Body image refers to one’s perception towards their own physical bodies as well as the thoughts, feelings, and behaviours that arise as a result of their perception. 

Body image can be perceived both as negative or positive and can result in both helpful or unhelpful thoughts, feelings, and behaviours that further perpetuate the perception. 

Body image consists of four aspects:

  • How one see’s their body as in how one visualises their body. 
  • How one feels about their body
  • How one thinks about their body

A negative or unhealthy body image is perpetuated by three patterns of thinking, feeling and behaviour. These include:

  • Perfectionism and holding impossible standards about one’s body or who wants their body to look like. 
  • Comparing their bodies with other peoples
  • Being expremently critical or judgemental about one’s body.

Developing a healthy body image involves developing a healthy sense of self esteem, being optimistic and positive towards how one sees themselves- this involves compassion, empathy, and self-love- as well as healthy emotional regulation.
