Passive-aggressive communication style users often mutter to themselves rather than confront a person. They lack open communication and their body language reflects this in the form of folded arms or turning away. They might also give silent treatment to communicate their feelings, spread rumors, and while they are aware of their needs- they do not voice them.

Assertive communication is thought to be the most effective form of communication where people can express their own needs, desires, ideas and feelings, while also considering the needs of others.  One of the keys to assertive communication is using “I” statements, which indicates responsibility of one’s own feelings and behaviors without blaming other people.
